Edith Hinsley began her riding career in 1969, at the Finger Lakes Race Track in New York State. She made a big bang with her first winner, Billy Brook, on July 4th of that year. Most of her short career was spent at Finger Lakes, she did ride at several other track and paid her dues riding in the 1971, Boots and Bows, all female race at Atlantic City Race Course, which she won, but what most defined or destroyed her career was her role as what is called today "whistleblower".
In 1971, Hinsley, wore a wire for the FBI during a race at Finger Lakes, listening in the parking lot they got evidence of a superfecta race that was fixed that day. To discredit her, it was said she was a "kook", who showed up for the 1971 season with a huge dog, a 250 pound pig and a boa constrictor in the back of her car. She did take credit for the dog, a Bullmastiff, but disavow the rest. In 1972 she returned to Finger Lakes as Edith Masters, but it seems she had wore out her welcome and would end her riding career that year.
